Keyboard Krap
I have had the same issue. Whenever I post a song by Sigur Ros or some Icelandic band, I want to spell the title correctly, but I don’t know the shortcut for eth and so I end up subbing it with a d, which isn’t exactly right but looks similar. Enlighten me if you find a solution. All I wanted was a couple of simple shortcuts to be able to type the letters þ and ð, but it seems the only way to do so is to change my keyboard to Icelandic and now everything is all over the place. I have to use the shift key to use an apostrophe or a question mark (don’t they ask questions in Iceland?) and they’re in different places and I feel like a retard!
You see, I lost my shit before when my friend Eija spelled the word “thing” like this: þing. Which is the phonetically correct way to spell it, but because þ (thorn) unfortunately died out of English in the 1500s we spell it with a th instead. But when she wrote it like that I was all like “Fuck this shit, I’m totally going to spell it like that and resurrect the letter in English and it will be awesome!” So I spent over an hour trying to find shortcuts for þ and ð (eth, which is the “th” sound in “the” or “that”, and fell out of English in the 1300s) but it seems there are no simple shortcuts other than to change the keyboard to Icelandic and now my heroic linguistic endeavour seems like a frustrating waste of time.
